'Squid Game,' Lee Jung-jae win at 2nd Hollywood Critics Association TV Awards

Netflix’s global hit Korean series “Squid Game” bagged two awards at the 2nd Annual HCA TV Awards held on Aug. 14.

“Squid Game” won two out of seven nominations in the Streaming category at the TV awards.

“Squid Game” won Best International Series, edging out “Acapulco,” “Lupin,” “Money Heist (Le Casa de Papel),” “Narcos: Mexico” and “Pachinko.”

Lee Jung-jae bagged Best Actor in a Streaming Series (Drama) for “Squid Game” against Adam Scott of “Severance,” Gary Oldman of “Slow Horses,” Henry Cavill of “The Witcher,” Jason Bateman of “Ozark,” “ Penn Badgley of “You,” Tom Ellis of “Lucifer” and Tom Hiddleston of “Loki.”

In a video message, Korean director Hwang Dong-hyuk thanked the association for the Best International Series award.

“First of all, I’m deeply grateful and honored to receive this award. I’d like to especially thank the Hollywood Critics Association for giving me this award. It’s been almost a year since ‘Squid Game’ was released,” he said.

He added, “I believe the series has since overcome the limits of a non-English series to create many historic moments and breakthroughs. Winning this award, in particular, will be long remembered as one of those milestones. I’d like to share this honor with all the crew and cast.”

Hwang Dong-hyuk revealed that he is now “working on season 2 of ‘Squid Game.’ I do hope to create a better second season and share it with all the fans and critics around the world. I look forward to returning soon with a great story.”

In accepting the award, Lee Jung-jae said in a video message, “I’d like to thank the Hollywood Critics Association for honoring me with this great award.”

“I feel immensely lucky to be a part of ‘Squid Game’ and I’m deeply grateful that so many of you around the world have enjoyed and supported this series,” he said.

The actor added, “I think ‘Squid Game’ has opened a new chapter in my acting career with opportunities to share my work with more people. I’m also more determined to do projects that are entertaining, meaningful and moving. ‘Squid Game’ will return for season 2.”
