OCTA notes decreasing Covid-19 positivity rate in Metro Manila

The OCTA Research Group on Tuesday, Aug. 16 said that Metro Manila’s Covid-19 daily positivity rate has been “trending downward” since the first week of August.

“The seven-day positivity rate in the NCR (National Capital Region) was 16.1 percent as of August 14, down from 17.3 percent as of August 7,” OCTA fellow Dr. Guido David said in an update on Twitter.

Positivity rate refers to the number of individuals who yielded positive results from among those who have been tested for Covid-19.

The World Health Organization has recommended that the Covid-19 positivity rate should remain at 5 percent or lower.

David said that Metro Manila also recorded a decrease in one-week case growth rate to -7 percent, while reproduction number was down to 1.13 on Aug. 12, from 1.19 on Aug. 5.

Meanwhile, healthcare utilization and ICU occupancy were at 37 percent and 32 percent, respectively, as of Aug. 14.

“While cases may have already peaked in the NCR, the trends will need to hold, as trends are still reversible,” David said.

He pointed out that Metro Manila is still under “moderate risk” for Covid-19.

David warned that the current wave of Covid-19 is not yet over even though the Covid-19 trends are going down in the capital region.
