Negros cop in hot water anew for beating taxi driver with disability
BACOLOD CITY -- A policeman is in hot water allegedly for punching a taxi driver with disability here last week.
Police Maj. Joery Puerto, head of Police Station 8, said on Monday, August 15, that 54-year-old Roque Tome Jr. reported that he was allegedly assaulted by a policeman following a minor traffic accident in Barangay Singcang-Airport here on August 10.
Tome told the police that he slightly hit the car of the policeman which was parked in the area when a passenger disembarked from his taxi.
Puerto said Tome apologized for the incident, but the policeman allegedly hit him, causing him injuries.
Puerto said that Tome had a medical certificate stating the injuries he suffered from the alleged assault of the policeman, with a rank of Police Staff Sergeant detailed at the General Services Unit of Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) here.
With the said incident, Puerto advised Tome to file an administrative complaint before the Internal Affairs Service (IAS).
Three months ago, the same policeman was also complained of for allegedly assaulting his employee, due to the alleged delay on the roasting of lechon.
Last year, two minors also filed the same complaint against the cop but the latter was able to settle the matter, according to Puerto.
Earlier, Nocppo stressed that it does not tolerate rude behaviors among their personnel, and that the Provincial IAS is already probing the first complaint against the policeman, whose name was withheld, pending the investigation.
