DOH detects more cases of BA.5, BA.4 omicron subvariants

New cases of BA.5 and BA.4 omicron subvariants were reported by the Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday, Aug. 16.

There were 1,011 more BA.5 and 19 additional cases of BA.4 across the country, based on the latest data of the DOH.

"At the moment, the exposure of individuals, travel histories, and health status are being verified," the DOH said.

Of the new 1,011 BA.5 cases, 907 were already tagged as recovered. Fifty-three of them are still undergoing isolation, two have died, while the "outcome of the rest are being verified," the DOH said.

"All regions except BARMM (Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao) have at least one individual that tested positive for the BA.5 variant," the DOH said.

It noted that "690 individuals are fully vaccinated, 12 are partially vaccinated, three have not been vaccinated, while the vaccination status of the remaining individuals are still being verified," the DOH added.

For the 19 BA.4 cases, the DOH said that 12 cases were from Soccsksargen, three each from Bicol region and Western Visayas, and one case from Cordillera Administrative Region.

Thirteen individuals were fully vaccinated, one was partially vaccinated, while the DOH is still checking the vaccination status of the other five individuals.

The DOH said that 15 of them have already recovered from Covid-19, three are still undergoing isolation, and one has died.
