Sen. Villanueva cites Bulacan's role in nation-building, contributions to PH history

Senate Majority leader Emmanuel "Joel" J. Villanueva on Monday, Aug. 15, cited the contributions of his home province of Bulacan to Philippine history as well as its contuing role in nation-building during the 444th Bulacan Foundation Day celebration held inside the Provincial Capitol Gymnasium in the City of Malolos.

"Pagtulungan natin at mas lalong palawakin ang papel ng Bulacan sa nation-building (Together, let us expand Bulacan's role in nation-building)," Villanueva said.

He quoted Dr. Jose Rizal's famous words when he said that "those who don't know how look back at where they came from will never get to their destination."

He said the future of the province of Bulacan lies in the hands of all Bulakenyos.

Villanueva said the one-month celebration of the Singkaban Festival is a big help in boosting Bulacan's role in nation-building, as well as the construction of the Hiyas Cultural Center in the province.

The event, which carried the theme: "Katatagan ng mga Bulakenyo, Hiyas ng Nagkakaisang Pilipino," was highlighted with a wreath-laying at the monument of Bulakenyo hero Gat. Marcelo H. Del Pilar led by Villanueva with Governor Daniel R. Fernando, Vice Governor Alexis C. Castro and members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.

The Provincial Government of Bulacan also unveiled the cultural marker in front of the Hiyas ng Bulacan Cultural Center which was declared an important cultural heritage by virtue of Kapasiyahan Blg. 019-Taong 2022 on the occasion of its 50th founding anniversary.

Fernando thanked Bulakenyos who joined in the celebration and urged them to look back on its rich culture and history.

The Bulacan Foundation Day kick-started the month-long celebration of the "Mother of all Fiestas" in the province -- the Singkaban Festival.
