Persistent power outages in PH's countryside a threat to national security--Tulfo
Senator Rafael ‘’Raffy’’ Tulfo has warned that the persistent power outages in different provinces continue to threaten the country’s national security.
Tulfo, chairman of the Senate Energy Committee, said that the government’s failure to properly address the recurring long periods of brown outs could seriously affect the peace and order situation in the country.
‘’This has to be addressed because terrorists, insurgents, and other criminal elements could take advantage of the situation,” he said.
Since being elected as chairperson of the Senate energy panel, Tulfo has already called out officials from underperforming electric cooperatives like Oriental Mindoro Electric Cooperative (ORMECO), as he vowed to get to the bottom of the problems on power outages in the countryside.
Tulfo had filed Senate Resolution (SR) 107 calling for a probe into the rotational power interruptions in different parts of the country, as well as the rising cost of electricity amid these outages.
The lawmaker is also alarmed at the adverse effect of persistent and rotational brownouts to the health and safety of the Filipinos, especially the poor.
Under his watch, Tulfo reiterated that he would do everything in his power to lessen the suffering of Filipino consumers and protect national security.
Tulfo is set to start the Senate investigation on the recurring problems on power outages in far-flung areas this coming week.
