Marcos taps former Agri chief Panganiban as DA undersecretary

A two-time Agriculture chief is back at the Department of Agriculture (DA) as an undersecretary.

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has designated former Agriculture chief Domingo Panganiban as undersecretary of the DA.

Marcos announced Panganiban's designation on Monday, Aug. 15, three days after the latter took oath for the post.

Panganiban was a former chief of the DA and held various positions in the agriculture sector under several administrations.

"Isang karangalan ang makatrabaho ang ating mga dalubhasa sa pagtugon sa mga pangangailangan ng ating bayan lalo na sa sektor ng agrikultura (It is an honor to work with an expert in responding to the needs of our nation, especially in the agriculture sector)," the President said.

Panganiban was appointed as Agriculture Secretary in 2001 during the time of former president Joseph Estrada and took another tour of duty as the Agriculture chief under former president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in 2005.

Prior to this, he also served as DA regional director in the 1970s and later served as director of the Bureau of Plant Industry.

He was appointed career operations Deputy Minister of the Philippine Ministry of Food and Agriculture in 1984. He left the government in 1986 after the Marcos regime fell.

In 1996, he was designated by former president Fidel V. Ramos as presidential assistant for agriculture.
