LPA, 'habagat' to drench most of Luzon

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said a low pressure area (LPA) will likely to enhance the southwest monsoon or “habagat” and bring scattered rains over most of Luzon in the next 24 hours.

The LPA, which formed on Monday afternoon, Aug. 15 was estimated at 270 kilometers west of Calayan, Cagayan at around 3 p.m.

Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, and Central Luzon may experience scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the combined effects of the LPA and habagat.

PAGASA warned against possible flash floods or landslides due to “moderate to at times heavy rains” in these areas.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the habagat and localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA also advised the public to stay vigilant as flash floods or landslides may occur during severe thunderstorms, which are often accompanied by sudden heavy rains, lightning, thunder, gusty winds, and sometimes hail.
