ILOILO CITY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has released a P7.4-million livelihood grant for 1,448 families in Iloilo.

Families from seven towns received P5,000 each during an August 12 payout ceremony in Guimbal led by Sen. Bong Go and Iloilo Rep. Janette Loreto-Garin.
Go and Garin were able to lobby for inclusion of the 1,448 beneficiaries for the Livelihood Assistance Grant (LAG), DSWD’s special financial aid for families whose incomes were negatively affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Mary Ann Masculino, DSWD-Region 6 (Western Visayas) coordinator for Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), said majority of beneficiaries were either agricultural vendors or have small-scale businesses such as “sari-sari” (community convenience) stores. Other beneficiaries were solo parents and senior citizens.
Tigbauan had the biggest funding with P1.92 million for 384 beneficiaries.
San Joaquin had the second biggest funding with P1.61 million for 323 beneficiaries.
Guimbal had P1.1-million funding for 222 beneficiaries.
Miag-ao had P985,000 for 197 beneficiaries ; P880,000 for 176 beneficiaries in Oton; P395,000 for 79 beneficiaries in Tubungan; and P335,000 for 67 beneficiaries in Igbaras.
