8,000 benefit from Cebu City-based foundation's charity drive in Sorsogon

CEBU CITY – At least 8,000 individuals benefited from the humanitarian drive conducted by a Cebu City-based foundation in Castilla, Sorsogon Sunday, August 14.

The Semi Di Speranza Foundation Inc. (SDSFI) based in Barangay Labangon, Cebu City conducted free eye checkup and distributed free eyeglasses as part of its “Mahayag nga Kaugmaon” (A Bright Future) optical mission.

Fifty wheelchairs were distributed during the activity at the Purok Rosal Gymnasium.

The foundation partnered with the Filipino Family Club International Inc. in conducting the humanitarian drive.

“We would like to express our gratitude to Francis Leo Marcos, founder of Filipino Family Club International Inc., for his unwavering support and for teaming up with the foundation to reach out to more underprivileged Filipinos,” said SDSFI founder Chili Tita Cabatingan.

Cabatingan said the activity was also made possible through the efforts of the local government unit of Castilla headed by Mayor Isagani Mendoza.

The activity in Sorsogon was the SDSFI’s first charity drive outside Cebu.

Its first charity event was held in Barangay Sawang Calero, Cebu City while the second was held in Carmen, Cebu.

Cabatingan said the SDSFU is looking forward to more philanthropic projects in other regions and in the whole Philippines.

“The foundation aims to build programs that will create self-reliant, self-sufficient, and more productive Filipinos by providing access to free healthcare, livelihood, and education,” Cabatingan said.

A non-profit humanitarian organization, SDSFI has distributed humanitarian aid to 34 barangays here.

At least 10,000 eyeglasses and 200 wheelchairs have been distributed in the three humanitarian missions that the foundation has conducted, said Cabatingan.
