Estrada wants Senate commendation for ASEAN Para Games athletes

Senator Jinggoy Estrada filed a Senate Resolution seeking a commendation for the Filipino para-athletes who won big in nine different sports during the 11th ASEAN Para Games (APG).

Senate Resolution (SR) 110 seeks to commend the athletes who were awarded medals in their respective sports.

A delegation of 144 athletes was sent to compete in Solo, Indonesia from July 26 to Aug. 7. A total of 80 athletes were awarded 104 medals in the following sports: archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, chess, judo, powerlifting, swimming, and table tennis.

Of the 104 medals, 28 were gold, 30 were silver, and 46 were bronze. The Pinoy athletes' performance bagged the Philippines a 5th place overall finish out of 11 participating countries.

“The perseverance, discipline, commitment to excellence, and sportsmanship they have shown during the regional meet and throughout the period of their preparation and training are exemplary values and attributes that the younger generation and all Filipinos could emulate,” Estrada wrote in his resolution.

“Their remarkable accomplishments and success in the international sports stage brought honor and pride to the nation, hence deserving of commendation and recognition from the Senate,” the resolution continued.

“For a triumphant campaign and for delivering the country’s best performance in the biennial regional games, these athletes deserve a commendation from the Senate. We have every reason to be proud of them,” Estrada said on Sunday, Aug. 14.
