DAR inks MOA with farmers' group to boost vegetable production in Zamboanga Sibugay

The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) is set to launch a water source system, which it said, would benefit local farmers in Zamboanga Sibugay.

The project is called Community Managed Potable Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene (CPWASH) and DAR officials said it it promises to boost vegetable production in Zamboanga Sibugay through clean water that would readily supply farms in the province.

In a statement, DAR said it signed with a memorandum of agreement with the Milagrosa Farmers Association (MFA) for the project.

"The potential of vegetable gardening as a great additional income for the members of MFA and the CPWASH would be a big factor to make it happen," said Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer II Mohammad Dassan Adju.

The agreement, he said, could be a window of opportunity for other agencies to pour their support and assistance into their group.

After the MOA signing, Adju has asked the farmers’ group to take care of the facilities provided to them so more farmers would be able to utilize them.

“ook after and maintain the facilities provided to you so that they would last longer and help more members,” he told MFA members.

At the same event, the DAR also conducted training on the Natural Farming Technology System in support of their organic vegetable production, where the members enthusiastically participated.

For his part, MFA President Richard Rojas said they are fully committed to taking care of the facilities and sustaining the project afforded to their association.

"We are very thankful to the DAR for the support they are giving us. We would do our best to make this a successful one,” he expressed.
