P15-M Super Health Center to rise in Iloilo

ILOILO CITY — A P15-million Super Health Center will open in a far-flung area of San Joaquin, Iloilo.

“This is going to be the improved version of the Rural Health Unit (RHUs) for very far places,” said Sen. Bong Go after leading the August 12 groundbreaking ceremony in Barangay Qui-anan.

Go was the main proponent that made Super Health Centers part of the program of the Department of Health (DOH).

Built under DOH’s Health Facilities Enhancement Program, a Super Health Center aims to bring services of RHUs or even a polyclinic to residents of far-flung barangays or barangays that are densely populated in urban areas.

“This is a big help to residents in the area. Barangay Qui-anan is the farthest barangay in (southern) Iloilo province and borders Antique province,” said Iloilo Rep. Janette Loreto-Garin, a former DOH secretary.

Garin said that more than 5,000 residents of Barangay Qui-anan and its neighboring barangays will benefit from the Super Health Center. She added that residents in the border barangay in Antique can also avail of the facility's services.

Go said that Iloilo will have five other Super Health Centers, in Anilao, Igbaras, Pavia, Maasin, and Sara.

Another Super Health Center will be built in Iloilo City, the regional capital of Western Visayas.

Also present during the groundbreaking ceremony were Sen. Robin Padilla, Vice Gov. Christine “Tingting” Garin, San Joaquin Mayor Ninfa Garin, and DOH officials.
