Marikina LGU kicks off 'Brigada Eskwela' for SY 2022-2023

The Marikina City local government visited the Marikina Science High School (MariSci) to kick off the “Brigada Eskwela” initiative of the Department of Education (DepEd) as face-to-face classes are set to resume in public schools on Aug. 22.

Marikina City Mayor Marcelino “Marcy” Teodoro, Congresswoman Marjorie Ann “Maan” Teodoro, and other city officials met with the MariSci students and personnel on Friday, Aug. 12.

In conversation with the school administrators and teachers, Teodoro urged local offices to immediately begin construction of MariSci’s new school building.

“Mahalaga na agad masimulan ang mobilization sa paggawa ng bagong gusaling ito dahil naniniwala ako na mahalaga ito para sa kinabukasan ng ating bayan (We should urgently mobilize the construction of this new building because I believe this will be important for the future of our city),” Teodoro remarked.

MariSci has been repairing their school infrastructures by fixing the ceiling of classrooms, and reinstalling the metal gates behind the school.

With the help of the City Environmental Management Office (CEMO), they also cleaned and flushed the school premises and removed excess branches from trees surrounding the campus.

To celebrate the Brigada Eskwela kickoff, the students and teachers of MariSci, Kalumpang Elementary School, and Kalumpang National High School held a short parade.

They were joined by parents, Barangay Kalumpang officials, and police.

The Teodoros also held a meeting with the Marikina Private Pre-schools Association, Inc. (MARIPRIPA). The organization was given a letter of concurrence from the local government in support of the pre-schools’ preparations for the on-site classes.

Through the arrangement, the local government provided pre-schools with materials such as air purifiers, thermal scanners, and personal protective equipment (PPEs) to protect the students, teachers, and school staff from Covid-19.

“Mahalaga ang paghikayat sa mga estudyante na palagiang maghugas ng kamay at panatilihin ang wastong distansya sa bawat isa; ang pagkakaroon ng maayos na sirkulasyon ng hangin sa mga silid-aralan, at iisang direksyon o unidirectional na mga pasukan at labasan sa paaralan upang maiwasan ang pagkalat ng Covid-19 (It is important to encourage students to regularly wash their hands and maintain physical distancing, as well as having classrooms with good ventilation, and one entry and exit gate to prevent the spread of Covid-19),” Teodoro said.
