BJMP deploys men to help in gov't's 'Brigada Eskwela 2022'

The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) deployed some of its personnel to conduct voluntary repair works and clean-up drives in the schools nationwide.

BJMP Director Allan Iral said the deployment is in support to the government’s "Brigada Eskwela 2022" program, adding that his men were already mobilized to assist in school repairs, clean-up activities and other concerns in preparation for the school opening on Aug. 22.

“Our personnel volunteered their time including a number of school materials in support to our educator’s efforts to create a more conducive learning environment for students amid the pandemic,” Iral said.

He noted that the BJMP is a constant support agency of the Department of Education (DepEd), especially during the conduct of Brigada Eskwela each year.

“We are one with the Department of Education in this annual advocacy since we are also a beneficiary of the Alternative Learning System program wherein thousands of persons deprived of liberty under our care have completed their basic education,” he added.

On Aug. 11, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benjamin ‘Benhur’ Abalos Jr. called on the entire DILG organization, which includes the Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), BJMP, and all local government units (LGUs) to engage in these annual volunteer activity in preparation for the start of each school year.

This year’s Brigada Eskwela, themed as “Tugon sa Hamon ng Ligtas na Balik-Aral” will run from Aug. 1 to 26 in schools all over the country. (Chito A. Chavez)
