BAGUIO CITY – The Philippine Statistics Authority-Cordillera has launched the Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) that’s targeting 59 municipalities from the six Cordillera provinces in its bid to fight poverty in the region.
PSA statistical specialist Brozybroz Mateo said the municipalities included in the CBMS roll-out are from the provinces of Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga and Mt Province, including Tabuk City.
Mateo said starting this August, some 36 local government units (LGUs) will start collecting data and expect it to finish by October while the 23 other areas will commence the data collection in October to be finished on or before December this year.
Both the PSA and respective LGUs will be funding the series of activities.
Mateo pointed out that more than a thousand hired personnel with fixed salary and transportation allowances will be conducting the collection of data (Phase 1) in the different areas of the region.
CBMS targets to reach all households and gather information from the general public, including but not limited to their demographic and socio-economic characteristics.
CBMS is an organized technology-based system utilized for collecting, processing, and validating important data which are vital to policy formulation, program implementation, and local planning, among others.
It will also guide prospective foreign institutions in providing financial assistance and loans to the Philippines as a whole.
The CBMS will help identify the right beneficiaries of various social protection and welfare programs.
PSA Regional Director Villafe Alibuyog appealed to the public to participate, especially since CBMS enumerators will visit their homes to collect pertinent data.
Alibuyog assured the public that all information gathered will be treated confidential.
Alibuyog together with Interior and Local Government-CAR, Regional Director Araceli San Jose, who was also present in the CBMS launching last August 9, urged all local government units to help their agencies in conducting CBMS campaigns to further inform their respective constituents about the importance of the CBMS which is covered under Republic Act (RA) 11315.
