PDEA nets drug suspect, P520K 'shabu' in Surigao del Norte buy-bust

Anti-narcotics authorities nabbed a drug suspect who allegedly yielded P520,000 worth of methamphetamine hydrochloride or "shabu" in a buy-bust operation in Dapa, Surigao del Norte on Thursday night, August 11.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) identified the suspect as Ricky Gerarcas, who was allegedly included in a drug watchlist.

Law enforcers collared Gerarcas after he allegedly sold shabu to an undercover agent, who then gave the signal to backup troops that the drug deal was consummated, in Barangay 13.

Aside from shabu, the operatives confiscated a motorcycle, cellular phone and identification cards of the suspect during the buy-bust.

The suspect has been under surveillance for his alleged drug-dealing ways and was arrested after an informant tipped authorities of his intention to sell illegal drugs during the buy-bust operation, according to PDEA.

Gerarcas faces charges for violation of Republic Act (RA) 9165 otherwise known as “The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.’’
