House members, staff get 2nd booster vs Covid-19

The House of Representatives under the leadership of Speaker Martin Romualdez continues to carry out vaccinations as part of its vigilance against Covid-19 infections.

On Thursday, Aug. 11, the House held a second round of booster vaccination against Covid-19 through the institution's CONGVAX drive-through program.

"Following the Department of Health (DOH) guidelines, the HRep's CONGVAX program opened its second booster shot for individuals aged 50 and up, as well as those with comorbidities aged 18 to 49," read a statement from the House's Press and Public Affairs Bureau (PPAB).

As per Medical and Dental Service (MDS) Director Dr. Luis Jose Bautista, there were 350 doses of Pfizer vaccines available for House members, secretariat officials and employees, as well as congressional staff, who were eligible to get a second booster shot.

A "first come, first serve" basis was observed for the jabs.

Bautista said that the MDS has already coordinated with the Office of the Speaker and the Office of the Secretary General for the conduct of more vaccinations.

The booster shot doses were given amid the observance of stricter health protocols in the other legislative chamber, the Senate, which will go on a three-week lockdown starting Aug. 15.

Three senators--Alan Peter Cayetano, Imee Marcos, and Cynthia Villar--have already tested positive for Covid-19 in the fledgling 19th Congress.
