DepEd condemns molestation of teachers in Camarines Sur

The Department of Education (DepEd) strongly condemned the sexual abuse committed against four elementary school teachers from Ocampo, Camarines Sur who were preparing for the opening of classes for School Year (SY) 2022-2023 scheduled this month.

“We denounce any acts of violence and injustice towards our teachers, who have been showing their dedication and effort to deliver equitable, resilient, inclusive, and quality education to our learners,” DepEd said in a statement issued Friday, Aug. 12.

Following the incident, DepEd said that it has already “instructed the field office concerned to coordinate with the authorities” to assist them throughout the investigation.

DepEd also assured that it will “provide the necessary aid to the victims” --- including financial assistance and psychosocial intervention.

Meanwhile, DepEd urged the local authorities in Camarines Sur to “conduct a swift investigation and bring justice to the family of the victims.”

Likewise, DepEd also called on its partner agencies in preparation for the upcoming school opening, especially the Philippine National Police (PNP), to “protect the welfare of our teachers, learners, and parents inside and outside the premises of our schools.”

In preparation for school opening this incoming SY, the DepEd is conducting the National Schools Maintenance Week or the “Brigada Eskwela” from Aug. 1 to 26 where teachers, parents, and other education stakeholders gather to do maintenance works in classrooms and other school facilities.
