839 criminal cases filed in court inside six months in Baguio City

BAGUIO CITY -- A total of 839 criminal cases were filed in court by the City Prosecutor’s Office for the first half of this year.

Prosecutor Bernard Allan Angeles said 265 inquest cases were also filed during the same period (January to June) with no pending complaints for resolution.

"So it means that there are no pending cases in the office. All cases can be acted upon, whether it is rich, poor, from Baguio or from other places who queue up, we will act on that," said Angeles.

Angeles disclosed that the filed cases include 11 murder and homicide cases; 13 robbery; 48 rape; 32 VAWC (Violence Against Women and Children); and 22 cases pertaining to child protection laws.

He said during the same six-month period, 188 inquest cases were referred to the City Prosecutor’s Office and that 100 of these cases involve illegal drugs.

Angeles revealed that most of those involved in illegal drugs are now in jail.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong commended the City Prosecutor’s Office led by chief prosecutor Conrado Catral for a ‘job well done.’
