4.1-magnitude quake hits Davao Occidental province


BUTUAN CITY – A 4.1-magnitude earthquake hit Davao Occidental province in Southern Mindanao region Friday morning, Aug. 12, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the earthquake was recorded at 7:43 a.m.

The epicenter was plotted 138 kilometers away southeast of Sarangani Island (Municipality of Sarangani), Davao Occidental province in Southern Mindanao region.

The tremor had a depth of 34 kms, Phivolcs said.

Earlier, a 4.1-magnitude earthquake was also recorded at 1:43 a.m. on the same day, Aug. 12, and the epicenter was traced 86 kms away southeast of the same island, town and province, with a depth of 140 kms, Phivolcs also reported.

The earthquake was tectonic in origin and the state agency is expecting no aftershocks.

The Southern Mindanao Office of Civil Defense (OCD) and Davao Occidental Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) there reported no damage or injury.
