PDEA nabs 2 high-level drug pushers in Cebu City

CEBU CITY – Two suspected high-level drug pushers were arrested in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Bulacao here Wednesday, August 10.

Agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Central Visayas (PDEA 7) arrested Rey Steven Buenavista, a 29-year-old waiter, and Jomel Añasco, 44.

Seized from the suspects were packs of suspected shabu worth P714,000, said Leia Alcantara, information officer of PDEA 7.

Añasco was previously jailed for murder and theft.

“It took a two-week case buildup before they were arrested. Based on the information that we received, the suspects can dispose of around 500 grams of shabu a week,” said Alcantara.

The packs of suspected shabu seized from the suspects weighed 105 grams, Alcantara added.

Charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Acts of 2002 will be filed against the suspects, the PDEA 7 said.
