'Paalam, Ma'am Diay!': Padilla mourns passing of Lydia de Vega

Senator Robinhood "Robin" Padilla joined the nation Thursday, Aug. 11 in mourning the passing of Lydia de Vega-Mercado, Asia’s "sprint queen".

‘’Hindi natin malilimutan ang karangalang ibinigay niya sa ating mga Pilipino mula noong dekada 1980s (We will not forget the honor she gave to the country in the 1980s). Dahil sa kanya, naging kahanga-hanga ang Pilipinas sa ating karatig bansa (Because of her, the Philippines was admired by our neighbor countries),’’ he said.

‘’Pero higit pa rito, atin siyang dapat pasalamatan sa inspirasyong ibinigay niya sa atin, hindi lamang bilang atleta at bilang Pilipino (More than this, we should thank her for the inspiration she gave to us, not only as athlete and as a Filipino),’’ he added.

‘’Salamat po at paalam, Ma'am Diay! (Thank you and farewell, Ma’am Diay!),’’ he further said.
