New Covid-19 cases in Iloilo declining – OCTA

The province of Iloilo and its capital Iloilo City are both seeing a downward trend in new Covid-19 cases, OCTA Research fellow Dr. Guido David confirmed.

“Iloilo City and Iloilo on a downward trend in new Covid-19 cases. The reproduction number (Rt) in Iloilo City decreased to 0.92 from 1.05 and the one week growth rate was -18 percent. The positivity rate also decreased from 16.1 percent to 14.7 percent. Let’s hope the trend continues,” said David in a tweet on Thursday, Aug. 11.

Iloilo City was one of the first areas in the country to record an uptick in Covid-19 infections in the “current wave,” said David, adding that this increase may be attributed to the emergence of Omicron sub variants.

Apart from Rt and positivity rate, David reported that the city’s average daily attack rate (ADAR) was 9.94 per 100,000 people as of Aug. 10, while its healthcare utilization rate was 46 percent as of Aug. 9.

Meanwhile, during the same period, Iloilo province’s Rt likewise decreased from 1.06 to 0.96 with a one week growth rate of -11 percent. The entire province’s healthcare utilization, on the other hand, was 50.7 percent.

“In Iloilo, we expect the wave to subside by the end of September . In line with this, we expect other provinces in the Philippines and hopefully other provinces see a downward trend very soon,” David furthered.
