MORE Power prepares to expand services in Iloilo

ILOILO CITY — MORE Electric and Power Corp. (MORE Power), the sole power distributor here, is preparing to expand its coverage in Iloilo after a law amending its franchise is now officially a law.

MORE Power President and CEO Roel Castro told members of the Iloilo Provincial Local Economic Development and Investment Promotion Center that preparatory works are under way.

In a meeting this week, Castro disclosed that a sub-station is under construction in Mandurriao here.

The sub-station will have a 30-megavolt ampere (MVA) power transformer that can serve portions of Iloilo City and the neighboring town of Pavia. A team from MORE Power recently inspected a power transformer in Vietnam and will soon arrive in Iloilo.

Republic Act No. 11918 officially became a law last July 30. The law expands the coverage of MORE Power into the second and fourth districts of Iloilo.

Specifically, MORE Power can serve 16 towns and the component city of Passi that are currently being served by the Iloilo Electric Cooperative-I (ILECO-I) and Iloilo Electric Cooperative-II (ILECO II).

Despite the previous opposition of ILECO to the law, Castro said that MORE Power is open to discussions with the ILECOs on possible partnerships and collaboration for the benefit of consumers.

Castro said that it is giving consumers in these areas the choice if they want the services of MORE Power or ILECOs.

Aside from the power transformer, Castro added primary lines on the boundaries of Pavia and Iloilo City have already been installed.
