Garcia: May 2022 polls most successful election in PH history

Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman George Erwin Garcia said the May 2022 national and local elections is the most successful poll ever held in the country.

He said this during the last leg of post-election assessment for automated election system gathering held in General Santos City, Thursday, August 11.

Garcia cited the speed and accuracy by which the votes were tallied as a major factor why he declared the recent election as the most successful.

He recounted that in fact, by 10 p.m. other presidential bets were conceding to the candidate who was leading in the result.

Garcia said the Comelec also received an overwhelming 82 percent trust rating from the Pulse Asia survey for the conduct of the recent poll.

"The people's trust in the Comelec was restored," he said.

Chairman Garcia also added that in the last election, poll-day-related violence significally declined to only 23 incidents, a far-cry from 2016's 166 and 2019 poll's 133 election-related violence incidents.

The post-election assessment for automated election system event was attended by Comelec, Regional Philippine National Police, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Department of Information and Communications Technology, Department of Education, Department of Interior and Local Government, and Department of Science and Technology officials, and other stakeholders.
