DTI issues new SRPs on basic goods, school supplies

The Department of Trade and Industry has issued suggested retail prices (SRP) bulletins on basic necessities and prime commodities (BNPCs) and school supplies taking into consideration increased prices in raw materials and distribution costs.

The two new SRP bulletins will take effect Friday, Aug. 12, 2022.

The SRP Bulletin on BNPCs covers manufactured basic goods such as processed canned meats, canned sardines, instant noodles, mineral water, detergents, toilet soap, condiments, vinegar, milk, coffee, bread, and batteries.

Notably, the price of Pinoy Tasty and Pinoy Pandesal remained unchanged. A DTI official said that the Philippine Baking Industry Group had been persuaded not to raise prices at this time and withdrew their petition.

Early in June this year, PhilBaking had asked DTI for a P4.00 price increase for Pinoy Tasty (loaf/450 grams) from P38.50 to P42.50 and Pinoy Pandesal (250 grams/10 piece per pack) from P23.50 to P27.50.

The DTI has always maintained that they only limit price adjustments to 3-5 percent from previous SRP. The last SRP Bulletin on BNPCs was issued in May this year.

The SRP Bulletin on school supplies imposes price range o. basic school items such as notebooks, pad papers, crayons, ballpens, erasers, and pencil.

The SRP on school supplies will guide consumers the prices of particular product based on their brand, make and volume. Prices may differ as to where they are bought. For instance, school items bought in Divisoria will be cheaper than those being sold in bookstores inside the malls.
