2 Nigerians, one Pinay nabbed in Laguna for bank fraud; P1.4-M cash recovered

SAN PEDRO CITY, Laguna – Authorities arrested three suspects who are allegedly involved in bank fraud on Wednesday, Aug. 10.

The San Pedro City Police Station (CPS) identified the suspects as Gladys Rias Francisco and Nigerian nationals Samuel Nomso Esomchi and Taye John Bamidele.

Francisco reportedly tried to withdraw P400,000 from Chinabank San Pedro Branch. However, upon coordination with Chinabank Carmona Branch to process the inter-branch withdrawal, the branch manager learned that the remittance was hacked and flagged as a possible fraud transaction.

The branch manager immediately coordinated with their security office and the San Pedro CPS that led to Francisco's arrest.

During a follow-up operation, the San Pedro CPS and operatives from the Cavite Provincial Intelligence Unit arrested the two Nigerian suspects and recovered previously-withdrawn cash amounting to P1.4 million.

The suspects are now under the custody of the San Pedro CPS and are facing criminal charges.
