'Weak' southwest monsoon may still affect Ilocos Region, 3 western Luzon areas

The southwest monsoon or “habagat” that brought rains over several parts of the country in past days has already weakened, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Wednesday, Aug. 10.

However, the habagat may still bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, and Kalayaan Islands.

PAGASA warned against possible flash floods or landslides due to “moderate to at times heavy rains” in these areas.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the habagat and localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA also advised the public to stay vigilant as flash floods or landslides may occur during severe thunderstorms, which are often accompanied by sudden heavy rains, lightning, thunder, gusty winds, and sometimes hail.
