There is no complete evidence yet on the need for Covid-19 booster shots for children aged five to 11, the Department of Health (DOH) said.

According to DOH Officer-in-Charge Maria Rosario Vergeire, they are still trying to complete information regarding Covid-19 booster shots for the said age group. She said that until now, the evidence remains incomplete globally.
"Sa ngayon, ang first 2 doses for 5-11 is still enough to protect them, especially against severe and critical infection. Magbibigay tayo ng information once we already have completed evidence on this (For now, the first two doses for five to 11 is still enough to protect them, especially against severe and critical infection. We will provide information once we already have completed evidence on this)," she added.
Vergeire also reminded that before they shift their focus on booster shots for five to 11 years old, the government must first achieve its vaccination target for the particular age group.
"Kasi po ngayon, ang atin pong accomplishments for five to 11 it's still at 4.2 million (As of now we have only vaccinated 4.2 million kids aged five to 11)," she disclosed.
With this, she stated that the country has only attained almost 40 percent.and the DOH is still looking at 60 percent of this eligible age group that needs to get vaccinated.
Before moving to booster shots, Vergeire urged the public to try to encourage the mothers as well as the legal guardians to have children vaccinated for them to be safe in the upcoming face to face classes.
