Cebu City-based foundation brings charity drive to Luzon

CEBU CITY – A Cebu City-based foundation is bringing its humanitarian mission to Luzon.

The Semi Di Speranza Foundation Inc. announced Wednesday, August 10, that its third mega humanitarian event will be held at Purok Rosal Gymnasium, Cumadcad, Castilla, Sorsogon August 14.

The activity will include free optical service while free wheelchairs will also be given to less fortunate and disabled citizens, said Niña Batad, the foundation’s spokesperson.

“According to the municipality of Castilla, the expected number of attendees for the said event is 15,000,” said Batad.

The “Mahayag nga Kaugmaon” (A Bright Future) is an optical mission headed by the foundation, which is based in Barangay Labangon here.

“The organization collaborated with Filipino Family Club International Inc. headed by Francis Leo Marcos to reach out more Filipinos in need,” said Batad.

The mega humanitarian event in Sorsogon will be the first undertaking of the foundation outside Cebu.

The foundation has held two outreach events here. The first humanitarian drive was held here last May and the second was conducted from July 23 to 24 in Carmen, Cebu.

Batad said that to date, the foundation has distributed humanitarian aid to 34 barangays in this city.

At least 10,000 eyeglasses and 150 wheelchairs were given for free in the foundation’s first and second charity drives, Batad said.
