Weather expert advises people to stop outdoor activities, take shelter to avoid lightning strikes
PANGASINAN – An official of the PAGASA (Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration) has advised the public to take precautions, especially monsoon season (July-Sept), because of lightning.

Chris Perez, senior weather specialist from PAGASA, said that during monsoon, those in the west of Luzon (including Pangasinan) and Visayas are exposed to the rains and thunderstorms.
“Usually in the night, afternoon or early morning there can be thunderstorms (bringing rain, gusts of wind occasionally and sometimes accompanied by lightning-thunder),” said Perez.
The weather expert warned the people in these areas to be extra precautions ‘to avoid untoward incidents like what's being reported in the news.’
On July 30, a fisherman and a farmer died after they were struck by lightning in Bolinao and Natividad town.

Perez said: “Kapag mga ganitong panahon po as much as possible itigil muna pansamantala ang outdoor activity kung may thunderstorm sa inyong area. Sumilong sa mga bahay, building, at huwag sa ilalim ng puno. Or kung nasa sasakyan, manatili sa loob nito, close windows and doors. (In times like these, it is advisable that people should stop their outdoor activities and take shelter in houses, buildings, and not under trees. Or if in a vehicle, stay inside with closed windows and doors).”
The police also reported that a farmer was killed while six others were injured after lightning struck them in Sitio Sta. Rita, Barangay Nibaliw, Mabini on June 12.
“Nakakakilabot ang kidlat ngayon, hindi mo na alam kung saan ka tatakbo lalo kapag inabutan ka ng malakas na ulan at kasamang kidlat, ibang iba na ang panahon kaya minsan ayaw ko ng schedule pang gabi sa trabaho, (Lightning is terrifying nowadays, you don't know where to go when you are caught by rains accompanied by thunders. The time is really different now, reason why I don't want to work at night),” said Michelle Bulatao, a mall employee.
Aside from lightning and thunderstorms, tornadoes are another happening in nature that threaten people, just like the one that happened in Dasol, Pangasinan on July 26.
