Taguig mayor says FVR a blessing to PH

Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano thanked former President Fidel V. Ramos, who passed away on July 31 at the age of 94, for his service to the country.

“A blessing to the country and to the City of Taguig,” said Cayetano of Ramos, who became the Philippine president from 1992 to 1998.

She said Ramos’ act of privatizing Fort Bonifacio, which is now the Bonifacio Global City (BGC), Taguig’s financial district, which has an area of 240 hectares, according to the Bases Conversion and Development Authority website, led to the city earning the distinction of being a financial district.

“President Fidel Valdez Ramos conceptualized the privatization of Military bases that planted the seed for Taguig, particularly Fort Bonifacio, to become a Financial District. The development of Fort Bonifacio allowed our city to offer scholarships and vital social services to our constituents,” she said.

Cayetano added, “Salamat, FVR! Mula sa Lungsod Taguig. (Thank you, FVR! From the City of Taguig).”

Born on March 18, 1928 in Lingayen, Pangasinan, Ramos became a veteran of the Korean War and the Vietnam War.

He served as secretary of the Department of National Defense from 1988 to 1991, and chief of staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) from 1986 to 1988. He was one of the military leaders of the 1986 EDSA Revolution.
