Parañaque City 1st District Rep. Edwin Olivarez said he will work hard to secure social services and infrastructure projects from the national government to benefit and improve the quality of life of the people of the city.
During Monday’s (August 1) flag-raising ceremony at the Parañaque City Hall grounds, Olivarez said he will continue the partnership and cooperation with the city government that were started during the time in Congress of his brother, now the city Mayor Eric Olivarez.
“We will continue to secure benefits for the people of the city through infrastructure projects like roads, flood control, multi-purpose halls and school buildings,” he said. “We shall also continue seeking social service funds for our hospitals and poor constituents.”
Olivarez, who served three terms as mayor, was elected chairman of the Committee on Government Enterprises and Privatization and vice chairman of the Committee on Metro Manila Development of the 19th Congress.
The committee on government enterprises and privatization is expected to play a key role in fulfilling the major goals of the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., particularly in the planned rightsizing of the bureaucracy.
Olivarez said the committee has jurisdiction over matters pertaining to government-owned and controlled corporations or GOCCs including the Government Service Insurance System, Social Security System, the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation, National Housing Authority, as well as the various economic zones, airport, and port authorities all over the country.
He said the committee chairmanship is a great honor because there are only 60 standing committees in the 360-member House of Representatives.
The solon said he was first elected Parañaque City congressman in 2010 before running for mayor in 2013.
“We thank our colleagues in the 19th Congress for their trust and confidence, and we assure the Filipino people that we shall discharge our duties with utmost care and competence, always upholding our credo that public office is a public trust,” Olivarez said.
