President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr., who also heads the Department of Agriculture (DA), met with officials of the agriculture department to tackle the course of action that the government will undertake for the sugar and coconut industry.

In a Facebook post, the official Facebook page of the Office of the President shared some snaps of the meeting with the chief executive.
“They also touched on the Agri-Credit Development to help the sector coordinate and collaborate with private financing institutions,” the Facebook page said

The Palace has yet to disclose further details about the meeting of Marcos with officials of the agriculture department.
To recall, the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) has warned that the country’s sugar supply may run out by August should the government prohibit the importation of sugar.
The SRA even noted that only one of the 13 refineries is operational as most of them stopped their operations in May.
The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has recently announced the approval of the Notice of Cash Allocation (NCA) amounting to P8,053,474,140 to the DA for the provision and distribution of P5,000 in subsidy to 1,563,781 eligible rice farmers in the 3rd and 4th quarters of 2022.
It is worth noting that Budget Secretary Amenah F. Pangandaman earlier said that the President has identified education and agriculture as among the departments he wants to be prioritized.
