Parañaque solon: Rightsizing the bureaucracy must prioritize welfare of gov't workers
Parañaque City 1st District Representative Edwin Olivarez said the planned rightsizing of the bureaucracy by the Marcos administration must ensure that government agencies remain efficient and functional and must prioritize the welfare of government workers.
Olivarez was elected chairman of the House Committee on Government Enterprises and Privatization and vice chairman of the Committee on Metro Manila Development of the 19th Congress.
Olivarez, Paranaque's three-term mayor, said the committee on government enterprises and privatization will play a key role in fulfilling the major goals of the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., particularly in the planned rightsizing of the bureaucracy.
“We shall see to it that our government enterprises will remain efficient and functional by carefully reviewing their mandates and operations, and that any privatization, if needed, must prioritize the welfare of our government workers,” Olivarez said.
Olivarez said the committee with 35 members has jurisdiction over all matters relating to the creation, organization, operation and reorganization of government-owned and controlled corporations or GOCCs.
He said these include the Government Service Insurance System, Social Security System, the various economic zones, airport and port authorities, among others, except government banks and financial institutions.
The solon said the Metro Manila Development Committee with 30 members has jurisdiction over all matters relating to policies and programs to promote and enhance the development of the National Capital Region.
“We thank our colleagues in the 19th Congress for their trust and confidence, and we assure the Filipino people that we shall discharge our duties with utmost care and competence, always upholding our credo that public office is a public trust,” Olivarez said.
