DPWH: 3.5-km paved coastal road seen to boost tourism in Negros Occidental
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced Monday, August 1, that it has finished paving a a 3.5-kilometer coastal road in Sipalay City, Negros Occidental which is expected to facilitate better access to various white sand beaches and other potential tourist destinations.

DPWH Region 6 Director Nerie Bueno said the project involves the upgrading of the coastal road from gravel to concrete with construction of slope protection, installation of metal guard rails, and provision of post and hazard markers and reflectorized thermoplastic pavement markings.
“With this upgraded coastal tourism road, various beaches in the area may be converted into tourism sites that will eventually provide job opportunities among locals,” Bueno said.
The newly-paved coastal road traverses the coastal barangay of Cayhagan, opening the door for more economic activities in the area considering its tourism, agriculture, and marine development potential.
Bueno said there is a high probability that agriculture development in the area will also be improved because of the reduced travel time and delivery cost of transporting agricultural and marine products to the market.
DPWH Negros Occidental 3rd District Engineering Office began concreting the two-kilometer portion of the road in 2020 with an allocated budget of P40 million while the concreting of the remaining 1.5 kilometers was completed in March of this year costing P30 million.
