The Pasig City General Hospital (PCGH) is now a certified mother-baby friendly facility, the local government announced on Monday, Aug. 1, after the hospital received its accreditation from the Department of Health (DOH).

The certificate of accreditation was signed on Dec. 27, 2021 by former DOH Secretary Francisco Duque III but was presented to the hospital during the weekly flag-raising ceremony on Monday, Aug. 1, 2022.
DOH director Dr. Gloria J. Balboa awarded the certificate to the PCGH officials, and thanked them for prioritizing the health and needs of mothers and babies in the city.
"Sa pagpapanatili ng Department of Health - Metro Manila Center for Health Development (MMCHD) sa kalidad ng breastfeeding program at iba pang serbisyo na may kinalaman dito, tayo po ay may accreditation at certification process para sa mga mother-baby friendly health facility initiatives (In ensuring the quality of breastfeeding programs and services, the DOH-MMCHD undergoes an accreditation and certification process for the mother-baby friendly health facility initiatives)," said Balboa in a speech during the event.
"Mahaba po ang pinagdaraanan nitong sertipikasyon na ito kasi gusto po natin siguraduhin 'yung quality of service na binibigay ng mga health facilities na ito (The certification process is long and tedious because we want to ensure that health facilities are able to provide quality service to patients)," she added.
The process involves crafting policies that are aligned with the laws, implementing the 10 steps to successful breastfeeding, and creating a breastfeeding committee, she said.
Other activities to strengthen the campaign are holding trainings, preparing documents and promotional materials, as well as conducting interviews and observations.
Dr. Alicia Santos, the MMHOA administrator of PCGH, said the certification is "a unified action of PCGH in line with breastfeeding linked to the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
"Sana kayo ay maging ihemplo o inspirasyon sa iba pang mga health facilities natin dito sa Pasig at sa buong NCR (National Capital Region) at Pilipinas na maging ganap na mother-baby friendly hospital (We hope you will serve as an example or inspiration to other health facilities in Pasig, the whole of NCR, and the country in becoming a truly mother-baby friendly hospital)," said Balboa.
Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto congratulated the PCGH for their accreditation, reiterating the local government's achievements and goals in enacting programs towards universal healthcare in the city.
August is National Breastfeeding Awareness Month, in accordance with Republic Act (RA) 10028.
The theme for the month's celebration is "Sama-samang itaguyod, tamang kaalaman at kalinga sa pagpapasuso."
