DILG chief cites ex-president Ramos' legacy of good governance

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has joined the Filipino nation in mourning the death of former President Fidel V. Ramos who passed away on Sunday, July 31.

“On behalf of the DILG and its attached agencies, we offer our prayers and sincerest condolences to the bereaved family, loved ones, and supporters of the late former president who have left an imprint of good public service within the walls and history of our nation,’’ DILG Secretary Benjamin ‘Benhur’ Abalos Jr. said.

Affectionately referred to as FVR (Fidel Valdez Ramos), Abalos stressed that his legacy of good governance will serve as a beacon of inspiration "as we all together aim to deliver the highest quality of public service to the people we serve.’’

Tributes continued to pour in for the country’s 12 Chief Executive with President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. condoling with his family and hailing him as having “lived a full life as a military officer and public servant.”

Ramos was the second cousin of the incumbent President's father, former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr.

Vice President Sara Duterte also extended her condolences to the Ramos family, as she emphasized the late leader's role in the peace process in Mindanao.

In 1996, Ramos signed the peace agreement with the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF), which ended the 24-year Moro armed revolution headed by Nur Misuari, Duterte said.
