Gilas bucks slow start to beat Singapore, closes in on quarters berth
Gilas Pilipinas 3x3 men’s team bucked a slow start to beat host team Singapore, 21-17, and close in on a FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup quarterfinals berth on Saturday, July 9, at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore.

The Filipinos overcame a cold-shooting game and poor defense as Gilas asserted its size over the smaller Singaporeans with Lervin Flores and Joseph Eriobu pounding the ball inside to keep Gilas afloat in the early goings before Almond Vosotros delivered key baskets down the stretch.
Flores and Vosotros finished with six points apiece while Eriobu and Samboy De Leon had their share with five and four points, respectively.
It took a while for the Filipinos to find their groove, trailing for most part of the match before Vosotros finally found the mark from the distance to put Gilas ahead, 16-15.
Jun Hao Mah tied the game once more but the Filipinos retaliated with a 5-1 run, capped by a Vosotros floater to seal the victory with still 15 seconds left in the clock.
Lim Jun Yuan and Wee Kiat Jovi Lim paced Singapore with seven and six points, respectively.
With the win, Gilas is almost assured of a spot in the playoffs and will only need to avoid a three-way tie in the standings to advance to the next round. The Filipinos plays the towering Chinese later in the day and a win would formally book them a spot to the quarterfinals.
