The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said it has already received more than 487,000 applications from individuals who wanted to become registered voters in time for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) in December.
The poll body said there have been 487,628 new registrants across the country as of July 8. The voter registration activities resumed last July 4.
Of the figure, 302,040 are individuals aged 15 to 17 year old, who are only eligible to participate in the SK elections. Also, 157,925 are individuals aged 18 to 30 who can participate in both SK and barangay elections.
Also included are 27,663 registrants aged 31 and above who can only vote for the barangay elections.
Aside from the new registrants, the poll body also got 88,471 applications for transfer from other cities/municipalities. It also received 21,270 applications for transfer from within the same city/municipality.
The Comelec also received 3,986 applications for transfer with reactivation; 1,323 applications for transfer with reactivation and correction of entries; 4,712 applications for transfer with correction of entries; 27,883 applications for reactivation; 6,303 applications for reactivation with correction of entries; 18,577 applications for change of names/correction of entries; 58 applications for inclusion of record in the book of voters; 11 applications for reinstatement of name in the list of voters; and 1,697 applications for transfer from overseas voting to local.
The voter’s registration will be until July 23.
All Office of Election Officers (OEOs) nationwide are accepting applications from Mondays to Saturdays, including holidays, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
