US to work 'closely' with Marcos admin

The United States is looking forward to working with the Marcos administration in terms of strengthening economic growth, protecting the environment, creating educational opportunities and ensuring peace and security in the Indo-Pacific region as it reaffirms its commitment to the Philippines under a new leader.

In her speech during the celebration of US-Philippines Friendship Day and US Independence Day on Friday, US Embassy Chargé d'Affaires Heather Variava expressed commitment to work "closely" with President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. "to secure a prosperous, healthy, and safe future for the peoples of both our nations."

Variava's promise came as she felt "excited by the power and impact" of the partnership of the two countries.

"At its core, our friendship and cooperation unlock the potential of our peoples through the exchange of ideas, expression of opinions, and policies outpouring of opportunity," she said.

The historical ties, the democratic values, and the cooperation between the US and the Philippines also make the two countries' partnership as important today as it ever was, said Variava.

"We are indeed, safer together," she added.

The envoy also wished for Marcos' fast recovery as the latter missed the event at the US Embassy after testing positive for Covid-19.
