Parents of kids aged 12 to 17 in Cebu City urged to let their kids have booster shots

CEBU CITY – The Cebu City Health Department (CCHD) appealed to parents here Friday, July 8, to bring their children aged 12 to 17 to vaccination sites for COVID-19 booster shots.

The CCHD pleaded after the first day of booster shots for 12 to 17-years-old last Thursday, July 7, had a low turnout.

Dr. Jeffrey Ibones, chief of the CCHD, said there were only about 60 individuals who showed up in the four vaccination sites that were allowed to give booster shots for the specific age bracket.

Ibones said administering of booster shots for 12 to 17-years-old is only available at four fixed vaccination sites at Ayala Center-Cebu, Robinsons Galleria, SM Seaside, and SM City-Cebu.

“We are hoping that more will show up to receive booster shots,” Ibones said.

Ibones said that for now, booster shots will only be administered at fixed vaccination sites.

“Vaccinations in schools, barangay gyms are for first and second doses, first and second boosters shots for adults only. Boosters shots for 12 o 17-years-old will be given strictly in our fixed vaccinations because it needs further observation,” said Ibones.

Ibones said the city’s vaccination drive has been continuing.

The CCHD noted that because of the impending return of face-to-face classes, vaccinations sites are drawing individuals aged five to 17.

Ibones said the return of full face-to-face classes further highlights the importance of being vaccinated.

“We are encouraging parents to have their children vaccinated with the opening of face-to-face classes. Vaccines will really give us added protection,” Ibones said.
