Muntinlupa LGU implements fuel-saving measures amid rising costs

The Muntinlupa City government has implemented measures to reduce fuel and gasoline use for all its vehicles amid the rising oil prices in the country.

In a resolution dated July 4, the city government’s Local Finance Committee recommended the fuel-saving measures that will be carried out for all city offices and departments.

It said during an energy audit on fuel and electricity consumption of the city government on May 13 conducted by the city government, Department of Energy (DOE), and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), it was found out that “based on the current and prevailing market price of gasoline and the average monthly consumption of the CGM , it is projected that the remaining budgetary allocation will be fully used up by October 2022.”

The resolution stated that “there is a need to control and monitor the expenses of the City Government on gasoline and fuel in view of the rising oil prices and limited budgetary of the City Government for the said purpose.”

The committee recommended the following measures to reduce the consumption of gasoline and fuel by the city government:

- Reduction of 10 percent on gasoline allocation per vehicle

- Scheduled daily trips to avoid unnecessary short trips

- Avoid engine idling while waiting and/or parking

- Regular preventive maintenance check-up for all service vehicles

- Temporary suspension on the use of city buses, coasters, and flexi trucks other than official business.

In a memo, City Administrator Allan Cachuela ordered all city departments and offices “to strictly follow the measures enumerated therein.”
