President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has accepted the invitation of the Chinese government to visit China, although there is no date set yet, Malacañang said.

Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles confirmed in a press briefing on Friday, July 8, that the President has received the invitation during his meeting with Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on July 6 at the Palace.

"There was an invitation but there is no date set as of yet. Yes he did (accept it)," Angeles said.

The Press Secretary disclosed that during the meeting of the two officials, both sides stressed that the cooperation of China and the Philippines "transcends any maritime disputes."

The friendship of the two nations, which have lasted for many years, was also stressed during Wang's visit.

"This is mutually agreed upon. The President has said that he seeks to bring the bilateral ties with China to a higher level," Angeles said.

It was a reiteration of the President's pronouncement in his first press briefing that the country would “increase the scope” of the two nations’ ties such as cultural and educational exchanges and “even military if that will be useful.”

Aside from China, Marcos has also received invitations from the United States and European Union to visit the countries.
