Lyceum escapes San Sebastian, keeps Final Four bid alive

Lyceum crawled back from a five-point fifth-set deficit to outhustle San Sebastian, 25-27, 25-22, 16-25, 25-18, 15-13, and keep its Final Four bid alive in NCAA women’s volleyball Friday at the Paco Arena in Manila.
Down by 7-2, the Lady Pirates launched an offensive assault anchored on Johna Dolorito and Jewel Maglimat before Venice Puzon scored a soft spike and an ace to seal their fourth win in eight matches.
The triumph tied Lyceum at fourth place with Jose Rizal University and Mapua, breathing life in its Final Four campaign.
It also foiled San Sebastian’s attempt at earning the third semifinal berth to join early semifinalists College of St. Benilde and Arellano.
San Sebastian still remained at third with a 5-3 mark with one match left in the eliminations against Letran on Sunday.
Dolorito pumped in 18 points off 16 kills while Janeth Tulang chipped in 16 points for Lyceum as they leaned on their sharp serves by firing 12 aces.
Zonxi Dahab and Maglimat finished with 12 points each while Ritanhelle Perez added 11 points.
Lyceum’s victory overshadowed the efforts of Katherine Santos, Christina Marasigan and Reyann Canete, who combined for 44 points for San Sebastian.
