BACOLOD CITY - A construction worker was killed after he was hit by a car in an intersection in Mabini highway in Barangay Zone 1, Talisay City, Negros Occidental on Thursday, July 7.

The victim was identified as Roberto Parreño, 55, of Barangay Zone 1.
Police Staff Sgt. Ryan Calalas, traffic investigator of Talisay City Police Station, said Parreño was crossing the street when an allegedly speeding hatchback hit him.
The victim was brought to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) here.
Calalas said the victim’s family and the 20-year-old female car driver had an initial settlement, with the latter assuring them to provide the necessary medical assistance to the patient.
However, Calalas said the victim later died that day in the hospital.
The car driver, a student, whose name was withheld, upon her family’s request, was released on Friday, after the lapse of her reglementary detention, according to Calalas.
Calalas said they are just waiting for the victim’s estranged wife to sign a document agreeing on the initial settlement.
