BTS to help Busan City win bid to host World Expo 2030
Grammy-nominated K-pop group BTS will be helping the Korean city of Busan to win the bid to host the World Expo 2030.
“World Expos, officially known as International Registered Exhibitions, are a global gathering of nations dedicated to finding solutions to pressing challenges of our time by offering a journey inside a universal theme through engaging and immersive activities. World Expos welcome tens of millions of visitors, allow countries to build extraordinary pavilions and transform the host city for years to come,” according to the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) website.

Five countries have submitted proposals to organize the World Expo 2030: South Korea (in Busan), Russia (in Moscow), Italy (in Rome), Ukraine (in Odesa) and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (in Riyadh).
Busan has geared up its bid with the help of BTS.
BTS will hold a global concert in October in connection with their appointment as ambassadors for the 2030 Busan World Expo.
Last Jun 24, Busan City signed a memorandum of understanding with HYBE Corporation’s Chairman Bang Si-hyuk and CEO Park Ji-won to support Busan’s World Expo 2030 bid.
Under the MOU, BTS will be appointed as ambassadors of the 2030 Busan World Expo, hold a global concert in Busan to raise awareness of the bid, hold negotiation activities with BIE member countries and guide BIE’s on-site inspection team.
BTS will also promote the 2030 Busan World Expo during presentations of World Expo 2030 candidate cities at the BIE General Assembly, share messages to request support for Busan, shoot photos and video for promotions, and post promotional videos on BTS’ social media accounts.

Busan is also the hometown of BTS members Jimin and Jungkook.
“BTS will be the honorary ambassadors for the 2030 Busan World Expo. The World Expo is a global festival started in 1851 that brings together countries under the theme of industrial, technological and cultural development. We are very honored to be named ambassadors for such a meaningful event,” said RM in a promotional video.
According to Jimin, “If the World Expo opens in Busan in 2030, Korea will be the seventh country to have held the world's three mega events along with the World Cup and the Olympics. I'm so excited that it could be held in my hometown of Busan and we'll strive to show the world Korea's beautiful nature and cultural power.”
“We're so happy that BTS will take part in advocating for the 2030 Busan World Expo. Not only will be advocating for the World Expo to happen in Busan but BTS and HYBE will also continue our work to help progress Korean culture,” said J-Hope.
Jin added, “The World Expo is a global event equivalent to an economical and cultural Olympics. We will do our best as honorary ambassadors to represent Korea and for the expo to be held in Busan.”
Busan hosts many events including the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF). It hosted the 2002 FIFA World Cup and Asian Games, 2005 APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting, and 2014 & 2019 ASEAN-ROK Commemorative Summit.
