Look for a worthy person in it

REFLECTIONS TODAY Jesus instructs his apostles that when preaching the Kingdom of heaven in the place they are assigned, they should look for a worthy person in it. The worthy person is someone who deserves a favor or recognition. But here it means the person who will receive the apostle well. That person will give him due support or protection, for the missionary has not brought anything with him, no money in his pocket, no baggage. This way, the work of the apostle will not be hampered, but facilitated. He will be able to cure the sick, raise the dead, and drive out demons. He will do it without charge. As Christians, we should not only see ourselves as apostles, proclaimers of the Kingdom of heaven. We should also see ourselves or make ourselves worthy persons who readily welcome missionaries, men and women of God, tasked to help our churches, families, and communities in their bodily and spiritual needs. Blessed are you if you are considered worthy. Peace will be with you. Gospel • Matthew 10:7-15 Jesus said to his Apostles: “As you go, make this proclamation: ‘The Kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, drive out demons. Without cost you have received; without cost you are to give. Do not take gold or silver or copper for your belts; no sack for the journey, or a second tunic, or sandals, or walking stick. The laborer deserves his keep. Whatever town or village you enter, look for a worthy person in it, and stay there until you leave. As you enter a house, wish it peace. If the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it; if not, let your peace return to you. Whoever will not receive you or listen to your words — go outside that house or town and shake the dust from your feet.
