PH Red Cross observes National Disaster Resilience Month; prepares disaster management assets

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) joins the observance of the National Disaster Resilience Month (NDRM) this July with the theme “Sambayanang Pilipino, Nagkakaisa tungo sa Katatagan at Maunlad na Kinabukasan.”

“Hinihikayat ko ang ating mga kababayan na laging maging handa sa panahon ng kalamidad (I am encouraging my countrymen to be always prepared in times of calamities),” PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Richard Gordon said in a statement released by PRC on Wednesday, July 6.

The Executive Order no. 29, s. 2017 designated July of each year as the NDRM throughout the country.

The PRC also expressed full support for the government in its initiative and actions on building resilience covering the four thematic areas of disasters: disaster prevention and mitigation, disaster preparedness, disaster response, and disaster rehabilitation and recovery.

In line with that, PRC has prepared its assets to promptly deliver services in case of urgent rescue and relief operations amid disasters.

The humanitarian organization's 35 Food trucks, 178 Ambulance units, 40 Rescue boats, 15 Fire trucks, 28 Water tankers, five Six-by-six and Rescue trucks, eight Payloaders and Humvees, four Fire tanker trucks, two Amphibians, and Military jeeps are on stand-by.

Also, PRC's 17 Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene hubs equipped with 30 water treatment units, trained volunteers and staff, and hygiene promotion materials are ready to be deployed at any time.

“Bukod sa ating modernong operasyon, nariyan ang ating mga volunteers na handang magmalasakit sa kapwa ano mang oras (Aside from our modern operations, the volunteers are always here to help everyone at any given time),” Gordon added.
